Lesvos 2025 - Arrival

A relatively uneventful journey to Lesvos was brimming with excitement for us as this was to be our second family holiday to the Island. Our previous visit in 2024 was clear and sunny every day so being rained on was definitely a new experience for them; I, however, saw plenty of rain when I came in April last year! The forecast for the week was pretty good so we weren't even slightly perturbed. In fact, Aidan was in the pool before our welcome drinks had been poured at the poolside bar!

While we unpacked our cases, the hotel Barn Swallows kept us company and sat chattering on the airers whilst the rain continued to fall. This fella wasn't bothered by us at all and seemed perfectly happy to be watched from close quarters.

After a much needed siesta followed by dinner at the Pela, we had a quick walk to the beach and despite the weather there were smiles all round; we were back and it was going to be good; very good indeed.
Back to the Pela for an early night but not before setting up my newly designed travel moth trap. Made from a foldable pet pen, this trap uses a 3 watt LED light and runs off a power bank.

Our first floor balcony seemed perfect for hotel-based moth recording. Normally I would enjoy sitting by the trap for a while but sleep beckoned and I would have to wait until morning to see what moths would be enticed into the trap.
